The Ben Phelps Project is a five-piece band from Virginia that focuses on creating a style all their own merging elements of jazz, acoustic folk, blues, and rock into a melting pot of southern soul featuring soaring saxophone and guitar solos. The BPP has played shows throughout the East Coast since its inception in 2004 highlighted by performances with B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Big Head Todd and the Monsters, Colbie Callait, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Michelle Branch, Cracker, Carbon Leaf, Pat McGee, Taylor Hicks, The Romantics, Good Old War, Chicago, and Cowboy Mouth.
Collectively the band has released four albums, Vision and Sound (2006), New Ghost Town (2010) which received airplay on college radio across the county, charting #1 in several locations and was also licensed to The Discovery Channel, MTV2, and VH1 for use in over ten television series. Goodbye Summer (2017), the third album release, garnered critical acclaim and radio success regionally charting several top 10s on the OurStage Music charts. The latest release Wake Up The Guards (2019) won Album of the Year a the VEER Music awards and is streaming on all digital platforms and the band is working hard to promote the record. The latest single/video "Where Were You When?" has been viewed over 20K on social media platforms and recently won Social Justice Song of the Year at the 2020 VEER Music Awards. The BPP released it latest single Three Piece Suit in May of 2023. Ben released his fourth solo effort, Points West (2023,) in fall of '24 following up Songwriter V.1 (2022.)
Since 2004 The BPP has continued to hone its live show. Beginning in August of 2024 they will be releasing one live song per month from thr bands favorite venues. All songs will be available through BPP online outlets. The songs will be released under the title Live Sessions.(2024.)
From the start, the BPP strived to create meaningful original music incorporating each member's musical influences and stylings. As a result, the sound of the band has evolved over the years. The current band has been together for 10+ years and is a tight-knit family of friends, each bringing something unique to the sound and experience. Catching a live BPP show is the best way to experience their musical brotherhood.
